Cemetery of Ebensfeld-Prächting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cemetery of Ebensfeld-Prächting is located in the district of Lichtenfels in Upper Franconia in Bavaria , near Prächting on a hill between Zeitelbach and Kellbach . The burial ground was discovered in the Iron Age from around 600 BC. BC up to the early La Tène period (500–400 BC) documented. The approximately 60 hills, 53 are in the forest and at least 7 in the adjacent farmland, which were excavated in 1975 and 1978, have diameters between 10 and 30 meters. The excavations showed that the hills were surrounded by stone circles. Three large burial mounds seem to have taken the central position in the burial ground. Almost all the hills in the forest are ruined. The partially burned dead lay in collapsed wooden chambers.

In addition to two iron swords and some pieces of jewelry , over a hundred ceramic products were recovered. Among them are three foot shells, a hand made of clay, an 18 centimeter high horse made of clay and a wheel. The ceramics indicate relationships with Upper Palatinate , Bohemia and Eastern Austria .

Excavations were carried out between 1840 and 1856 by L. Herrmann, 1975 by Christian Pescheck , and K. Schneider, 1978 by Björn-Uwe Abels and Wilfried Auer.
