The Kellbach is a ten kilometer long, left and southeast tributary of the Main in Markt Ebensfeld in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels .

geography

course

The Kellbach rises east of Kleukheim . It initially flows in a westerly direction through Kleukheim. There it bends to the northwest, takes on the Kümmelbach from the right after the village . In the following village of Prächting , it is reinforced on the same side by the Zeitelbach . After he Kutzenberg has happened to the now low left slope, he crossed the entrance to the wide upper Maintal the A73 . Then it passes through the eponymous capital Ebensfeld of the market community, where it also crosses the Hof – Bamberg railway line and flows into the Main from the left and finally east a little below river kilometer 411 .

Catchment area

The Kellbach drains 22.8 km² on the northern edge of the Franconian Alb northwest to the upper Main near Ebensfeld on its section between Lichtenfels and Bamberg . From a natural spatial point of view, the Kellbach catchment area mainly belongs to the foothills of the Northern Franconian Jura , only close to its mouth in the west, for example at Kutzenberg, to the lower Ebinger main valley of the Itz-Baunach hill country . It extends from Marienberg (approx. 567  m above sea level ) about 9 km to the northwest to the mouth at about 245  m above sea level. NHN ; across it it is less than 4.5 km wide everywhere. Because of its two large tributaries, Kümmelbach and Zeitelbach , approaching at right angles , the Kellbach runs much closer to its left watershed in the middle reaches.

All competitors of the Kellbach also drain to the upper Main. The watershed in the north runs eastwards from the estuary and rises in several stages to the level of the Frankenalb, at first quite flat to the Zobelberg ( 337  m above sea level ), then steeply to the Ansberg mountain spur ( 460  m above sea level ) with the Vitus Chapel, then again steep to a larger western spur east of Dittersbrunn ( 509  m above sea level ). Up to this point the catchment area of the upstream Main tributary Sträublingsbach borders almost on the outskirts of Ebensfeld . Then the border line bends in a slow turn and a slow rise to the south until it has reached the flat top of the Marienberg ( 567  m above sea level ) and thus its easternmost point; on this section, the short, but rich in catchment area Döritz to Sträublingsbach soon drains beyond it . The watershed then moves southwest in front of the Scheßlitzer Ellernbach and after about one kilometer it reaches 576  m above sea level. NHN highest point in the catchment area on an unnamed forest ridge. At Scheßlitz -Roschlaub the catchment area border then draws in a steep descent of over 520  m above sea level. NHN at about 360  m above sea level. NHN for a good kilometer to the west, the other side drainage runs over Kuhgraben and its lower Grumbach , like the Ellernbach before it, to the Leitenbach, which flows far down into the Obermain . At Angerholz the watershed then bends to the northwest and runs at a fairly constant height to the Rotenberg ( 346  m above sea level ), on the outside the closer and less important Leiterbach downstream competes here . On the remaining part of the northwestern border line back to the mouth there are no more significant tributaries to the nearby Main on the other side.

Tributaries

Partly hierarchical list of the tributaries from the source to the mouth. With water length, catchment area and height. Other sources for the information are noted.

Source of the Kellbach at about 406  m above sea level. NHN to the west and below the forest slope that pulls down from the Kehlholz von Scheßlitz -Roschlaub. The uppermost section is the municipal border to Scheßlitz.

  • On the left slope of the forest, a stone channel runs down to the valley a little after the source .
  • Aschbach (Kellbach) , from the right and northeast to about 318  m above sea level. NHN shortly before the eastern edge of Kleukheim, approx. 3.1 km and approx. 5.9 km².
This inflow is the more important upper course compared to the Kellbach, which is only approx. 1.7 km long up to there and is only a catchment area of approx. 1.8 km² has accumulated
    • (Dry valley inlet), from the left and south-southeast to about 365  m above sea level. NHN at the downstream end of Oberküps, around 1.0 km and around 1.7 km². The valley begins at the foot of the former monastery on the Marienberg . Rises at about 410  m above sea level. NHN a little east of Oberküpf.
  • Froschbach , from the left and southeast to about 307  m above sea level. NHN in Kleukheim, approx. 1.5 km and approx. 1.9 km². Rises at about 345  m above sea level. NHN on the edge of a slope forest strip. Usually accompanying the corridor after the corridor boundary.
  • Kümmelbach , from the right and east-northeast to about 290  m above sea level. NHN between Kleukheim and Prächting, approx. 3.3 km and approx. 3.5 km². Rises at about 408  m above sea level. NHN a spring at the lower edge of the forest slope east of Kümmel.
  • Zeitelbach , from the right and northeast to around 285  m above sea level. NHN in Prächting, approx. 2.1 km with a slightly longer left source stream and approx. 2.1 km². This arises at about 371  m above sea level. NHN at the end of a corridor tube in the forest south of Dittersbrunn, where the road from there to Kümmel enters the forest. Another spring is located about 30 meters above on the forest slope.

Estuary of the Kellbach from the left and finally east to 249  m above sea level. NHN near Ebenfeld in the upper Main . The stream is 10.0 km long, counted from the source of the Longer Aschnach , and has a catchment area of 22.9 km².

Places and places to live

From the source to the mouth there are:

  • Kleukheim (parish village)
  • Dry mill (left) , to Kleukheim
  • Ecksteinmühle (left) , to Prächting
  • Prächting (parish village)
  • Hahnhof (wasteland, left slope)
  • Kutzenberg (village, left on the ridge)
  • Presslermühle (right) , to Prächting
  • Ebensfeld

All places belong to the market town of Ebensfeld .

The Kellbach nowhere leaves the municipality of Ebensfeld. The largest part of the catchment area also belongs to the market town; except for small peripheral areas. In the east a tiny gusset already belongs to the Bad Staffelstein plateau , in the east and south-east parts of the plateau and part of the upper left valley slope belong to Scheßlitz in the Bamberg district , in the south-west a part of the already low hills on this side of Markt Zapfendorf (also Bamberg district).

In addition to the above-mentioned places close to Lauf, there are also the following settlements in the catchment area, clockwise from the north:

  • St. Vitus Chapel (Sporn Ansberg; northern watershed)
  • Dittersbrunn (village, slope above the right Zeitelbach upper course)
  • Kümmel (village, in the middle Kümmelbachtal)
  • Oberküps (Kirchdorf, on the upper Aschbach) and Unterküps (village, on the middle Aschbach)
  • Marienberg (former monastery above the dry valley end mentioned; eastern watershed) , the only non-Ebensfeld settlement area, to the town of Scheßlitz

Flood

On May 31, 2013, the surprisingly fast and unusually high climbed Kellbach in Ebensfelden burst over the banks, filled cellars and flowed across the street.

nature and environment

The beaver is native to the Kellbach and tailors and minnow can be found in the stream itself .
