The tailor ( Alburnoides bipunctatus ), also Alandblecke or Breitblecke , is a schooling fish that can be found in standing, but also in fast flowing waters. He seems to prefer fast flowing rivers or streams. Its body length is 10 to 12 centimeters, it reaches a maximum of 16 centimeters.

It feeds on plankton and bottom invertebrates such as worms , small crustaceans and insect larvae . If the opportunity arises, however, it also eats small animals living on land that are near the water.

The spawning season is between May and July. During this time the tailor is brightly colored. The eggs are laid over gravelly ground in strongly flowing water.

In some German federal states the tailor is protected all year round because of its rarity . It was named "Fish of the Year" in 1986.
