Alburnoides is a genus of the carp family . Their distribution area extends over Europe , the Middle East and North Asia . They are freshwater inhabitants that make their home in rivers and lakes.

features

Alburnoides species are 7 to 14 cm long and have an elongated, laterally flattened body. They share most of their characteristics with the genus Alburnus . These include a more or less clearly pronounced ventral keel, which can be both scaled and scaly, as well as a slightly to greatly elongated anal fin. There is also a large eye socket and a tooth formula of 2.5-5.2 or 2.5-4.2 for the pharyngeal teeth . In addition, the number of trunk and tail vertebrae are the same in Alburnoides and Alburnus , or the difference is only one to four vertebrae, while it is between four and six in most other whitefish genera. The number of predorsal vertebrae is 15 to 17.

The only distinguishing feature from Alburnus is the downward curved side line marked on both sides with small black dots and the straight dark stripe that runs from the rear edge of the gill cover to the caudal peduncle. These two features are absent from Alburnus .
