The Prespa cutter ( Alburnoides prespensis ) is a species of freshwater fish from the carp family . It was originally considered a subspecies of the tailor ( Alburnoides bipunctatus ) and is endemic in Lake Prespa . Due to its small distribution area, the taxon is considered endangered.
features
Alburnoides prespensis reaches a standard length of 90 millimeters. The number of scales on the lateral line organ is 42 to 46. There are 10 to 11½ branched anal fin rays. The mouth gap is longer than the eye diameter, the distance between the eyes is 1.2 to 1.4 times larger than the eye diameter. The mouth opening is terminal and the chin is only slightly beveled. The length of the tail stalk is 1.8 to 2.2 times the height.
Occurrence
The occurrence of Alburnoides prespensis is limited to Lake Prespa in the triangle of North Macedonia , Greece and Albania .
Habitat and way of life
Little is known about the way of life of Alburnoides prespensis . The species inhabits the surf zone along the shore. The spawning season is between May and June.
