The Gräfiggründer pond , also gray pond , is a reservoir in Saxony-Anhalt . The bush trench is dammed . The pond is part of the Unterharzer pond and trench system .

description

The reservoir is located between Straßberg (Harz) and Breitenstein on the Straßberger district in Saxony-Anhalt . It is one of the oldest artificial reservoirs in Germany and is at least the second oldest still existing reservoir in Germany. The name is derived from the Gräfingrund - the place where the pond is located.

The top of the dam is at 470 m above sea level. The dam has a length of about 75 meters, the pond area is 14,484 m² when fully flooded. The original storage capacity of 30,000 m³ should no longer exist due to the heavy siltation, the depth is only a maximum of 6 meters.

Drainage takes place through the Büschengraben and the Schindelbrücher artificial moat , which is now drained.

history

The exact construction time is not known, the first documentary mention comes from the year 1320. It is mentioned that the pond already existed in 1310.

Originally the pond was probably used as a fish pond before it was rededicated as an artificial pond from 1610 at the latest (second documentary mention) . The pond was connected to the Lower Harz pond and ditch system in 1703/1704 when the Schindelbruch artificial ditch, which later crossed the moat from Möllerteich , was built from the Gräfingründer pond to the lazy puddle pond under the direction of Georg Christoff von Utterodt .

After mining ended, the trench was drained and the pond slowly silted up. From 1900 this became a popular bathing pond - initially also used for fishing. Due to its secluded location, idyllically in the middle of the forest, the Gräfingründer pond with its partly rocky shore was also popular for nudist bathing. The construction of a residential building for the forest manager on the lawn and the cordoning off of the dam in 2010 ended this possibility of use and met with a lack of understanding in the region. The building permit for the building located outside of the village was granted before it was designated as a monument, after large areas of forest in the middle Lower Harz were sold to a private owner.
