Art pond Neudorf

As archaeological cultural monuments , all artificially created historical ponds and ditches in the state of Saxony-Anhalt are protected according to the DenkmSchG LSA , regardless of their age or current function. Only the ponds of the Lower Harz that were formerly used for mining and its subsequent industries are listed here . Only ponds used for agricultural or fishing reasons are not listed.

Mining in Straßberg and Neudorf

These ponds are located in the mining districts of Straßberg, Silberhütte, Birnbaum and Neudorf. The total storage capacity was around 17.5 million m³.

Lower Harz water shelf

The ponds of the Unterharzer Wasserregal are around 20 smaller and larger reservoirs . Most of them were created around the beginning of the 17th century between Oberer Lude , Großem Auerberg , Straßberg , Neudorf and Silberhütte . Some ponds are classified as dams . With the Gräfiggründer pond, the second oldest reservoir in Germany is also part of the system.

The Elbingstalteich pond, which is also used by the Straßberger Pochwerke but is located in Anhalt-Bernburg, lies, unlike the ponds connected by Silberhütter Kunstgraben , on the left side of the Selke and is usually not included in the Lower Harz water shelf. This also applies to the small pond of arts in Hellergrund , whose water drove pumps in the pear tree via field rods .

Other mining ponds

Only the ponds in Saxony-Anhalt are listed. The ponds of the Lower Harz Mountains in Thuringia do not belong to the Lower Harz Pond and Ditch System .
