The Teufelsteich is an old reservoir in the Harz Mountains . The dammed waters are the Teufelsgrundbach and the Siebengrundbach . The Fürst-Victor-Kunstgraben, which flows into the Silberhütte Aufschlaggraben, was an additional drain .

description

It was built in 1697 near Harzgerode and Quedlinburg ( Saxony-Anhalt ) as an artificial pond for mining. In 1837/38 it was increased for silver mining.

The Teufelsteich was not connected to the Unterharzer pond and ditch system until 1903/04. The Silberhütter Kunstgraben was extended for the last time and it now ended in the catchment area of the Teufelsteich, the Siebengrund . The extension got the name Siebengründer Graben , at the same time the section to Neudorf was drained. In addition to the Teufelsteich, the Fürstenteich and the Silberhütter Pochwerksteich were also supplied with water from the Lude and Rödelbach .

From 1947 the pond is used for the drinking water supply. In 1985 the dam had to be completely renewed. A new state-of-the-art dam was built 30 m below the old dam and the old one was removed.

The new, higher dam consists of a support body made of clay slate and a clay core in the middle. The storage space was increased by 203,000 m³ due to the new building. The dam now has new operating facilities such as a flood relief system , a bottom outlet , an extraction tower with a service walkway, a valve house and a pumping station.

flora

On Teufelsteich were ranunculus peltatus , White bent grass , Eleocharis palustris , Gray Green Fireweed , deergrass and Florentine hawkweed proven. Added Dotted loosestrife on the road east of the devil pond, bastard alfalfa on a roadside near the pond, Brown Moor Clover on the least pond fallow meadow, Real Wundklee to a east of the pond located wayside, Hoary ragwort in a spruce young growth corridor on the north bank, Ash-leaved maple on a dirt road east of the Teufelsteich and Pannonian vetch on a fallow north-east of the pond. The Pannonian vetch was first detected in the Harz interior in 1999.
