description

history

The border pond was built in 1723 by the Asseburg miner Schlegel, instead of the old pond that existed until 1921. From 1761 the pond supplied impact water for the water wheels of the Pfaffenberg mine in the "Birnbaum Revier" on the Straßberg-Neudorfer gangway. For this purpose, the pond dam was raised. From this point in time at the latest, the pond was no longer entirely in the territory of the Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg , but in parts of the Dankerode office belonging to the Asseburg rule of Falkenstein . In return, the Falkenstein rulers were paid 25 thalers a year in lease.

In 1761/62 the Silberhütter Kunstgraben was initially extended through the Neudorfer Graben to the Schmalen Wipper and the Birnbaumteich and supplied more water to the border pond. In 1764, the Neudorf artificial pond was built and the Neudorfer Graben was extended to the creek dammed up in this pond. The low-lying border pond was therefore no longer needed. The section of the Neudorf trench leading to the narrow Wipper was drained and the border pond was taken out of mining use. Since then, the border pond has only been used as a fish pond.
