The Bergrat-Müller-Teich in the Harz low mountain range is an approximately 1.3 hectare reservoir built between 1737 and 1738 in the wooded southern foothills of the urban area of Quedlinburg in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It is registered as an art pond in the local register of monuments.

Geographical location

The Bergrat-Müller-Teich is located on the southern slope of the Ramberg massif in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt nature reserve . Between Friedrichsbrunn (2 km northwest; to Thale ), Mägdesprung (4.8 km east-southeast) and Alexisbad (5 km southeast; both to Harzgerode ) it is located in the forest 6.8 km southwest of Bad Suderode and 7 km (both as the crow flies ) southwest of Gernrode , two districts of Quedlinburg . The city limits of Quedlinburg to Harzgerode runs directly southwest to south past the pond, and about 1.5 km northeast of the at 500.3  m above sea level. NHN Höhe is the peak of the Viktorshöhe ( 581.5  m ). The pond is fed and drained, like the Erichsburger Teich , located about 400 meters to the south-southeast , from the Friedenstalbach flowing southeast to the Selke . The Merkelbach holiday park is located about 250 m west of its dam .

History and description

The Bergrat-Müller-Teich was created by Bergrat Müller from 1737 to 1738 for mining purposes, after the nearby Erichsburger Teich had already been completed in 1709. Water was dammed in the pond in order to be able to drive waterwheels , which freed the nearby Prince Karl Wilhelm pit of infiltrated water via a pump rod . In the pit were 1708 to 1741 in addition to pyrite and fluorite 12,000 annually  tons of copper ore mined, from which about 25 t of copper were recovered. In the vicinity of the pond there is an abandoned, heavily overgrown quarry, in which two-mica granite from the upper carbon of the Ramberg emerges with a well-developed weathering zone.

An earth embankment serves as a dam .

hike

The Bergrat-Müller-Teich is included as no. 190 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin; the stamp box is located east of the dam. A few meters above the east bank of the pond there is a large refuge.
