The Wettelrode artificial pond is a former copper mining artificial pond north of Wettelrode . It was created in 1728 to supply the Carolusschacht with impact water .
In the present, the artificial pond is integrated into the reservoir system of the reservoirs operated by Saxony-Anhalt as the Wettelrode reservoir .
history
In 1729, the Heineckeröder pond dam was created in the valley between the Heineckeröder Berg and the war wood. He supplied the water arts on the Kamp and Heiligenborn with impact water. In 1843 the dam was renewed and increased so that the volume of the pond rose to around 195,000 m³. At the same time a 311 m long rose was driven through the Kriegberg, through which the waters were fed to the Carolus and Johannschachts.
The dam was raised again in 1850. The pond now contained 208,500 m³ with a water surface of 4.57 ha.
When the Carolusschacht broke up in 1880, the impact water from the Wettelröder pond was no longer needed. As a result, the pond was no longer maintained, which led to the dam breaking on November 29, 1939 after heavy rainfall. In retrospect, the bottom outlet was considered to be too small and the overflow also had too little flow capacity, as fish rakes were installed in 1938. As a result, the dam crest was flooded, causing it to break. The dam breach caused a flood in large lines , with high property damage and loss of livestock. Fortunately, there were no human lives to be mourned. Presumably due to the Second World War, the dam was not repaired until 1952.
tourism
The pond is located at the Art Karstwanderweg and is a station of the mining trail Wettelrode . There is a restaurant here. The pond is a recreational area and is used for fishing and swimming.
