The Elbingstalteich is a listed pond in Harzgerode in the area of the town of Güntersberge in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The pond is surrounded by forests a little more than two kilometers east of Güntersberge. On the south bank runs Selketalstieg just to the south the Selketalbahn .

Design and history

The artificial pond was created in 1725, according to other information in the period between 1726 and 1755. Its 80 meter long dam is built as an earth or stone embankment dam. It dams the Steinfurtbach flowing in from the north , which also drains the Elbingstalteich to the south and flows into the Selke after a few meters . The pond was of great importance for the operation of stamp mills , smelters and mines in the area around Straßberg further south-east . The water was led to two stamp mills via a ditch . However, as early as the middle of the 18th century, silver ore mining declined in the region, which meant that the pond lost its original function and was used for fishing.

In 1973/74 a repair took place.

In the local register of monuments , the artificial pond is listed as a monument under registration number 094 50012 . Presumably by mistake, the Elbingstalteich is also registered as a monument for Straßberg under the number 107 25036.

Today (as of 2017) the pond is managed by the Unterharz fishing club. There are carp, tench, whitefish, pike, perch and trout in the pond.

The Elbingstalteich is an important testimony to the montane water management. At the pond there is a Dennert fir tree on which information is given about the history of the pond.
