The Vatteröder Teich is a pond near Vatterode that is fed by the Wipper . It is part of an originally for employees of VEB Mansfeld combine "Wilhelm Pieck" landscaped recreation area . During the GDR era, the press festivals, the “Mansfeld Echo” of the Mansfeld Combine, were held here.

The pond in its current form was created in 1849 as an official pond by enlarging the mill pond, which has been in existence since the 15th century and originally served as a water supply for the Vatteröder mill. This was supplied with water via the Mühlgraben. Until the 1870s, the Mühlgraben, which later flows into the Hüttengraben, was also used to supply the Leimbach copper works. With the emergence of the copper chamber and God's reward hut in Hettstedt, the need for water increased, so that the pond gained importance as a means of constant water supply.

After the Second World War, the pond developed more and more into a local recreation area with a stage, playground and pedal boat rental. A park railway was also installed.

The Vatteröder pond can be reached by rail via the Wipperliese stop of the same name . The daily passenger traffic was discontinued on April 13, 2015. For the time being, until October 31, 2017, the Wipperliese will operate on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays with five pairs of trains for tourist purposes.
