The “Gräftiegel ” barrier or “pre-barrier” is the pre-barrier of the lower basin of the Goldisthal pumped storage plant in Thuringia and, like it, belongs to the power plant operator Vattenfall Europe Generation. The reservoir in which the Schwarza is dammed is located near Scheibe-Alsbach and Neuhaus am Rennweg . It forms a surface of 7.8 hectares.
The pre-lock ensures that there is an even water level at the reservoir root of the lower basin and that it does not fall dry due to operational fluctuations in the water level.
The barrier structure is a rubble dam with a core seal made of asphalt concrete .
