The Grünausee is a mountain lake in the Stubai Alps in Tyrol .

It lies between the Sulzenaukogel ( 2944  m ) in the west and the Urfallspitze  ( 2805  m ) in the east at an altitude of 2328  m . It is drained by the Freigerbach, a feeder of the Sulzenau creek that flows into the Ruetz at the Grabaalm .

The Grünausee is a Moränenstausee that of the moraine of the Wilden Freiger-Ferners is dammed, which goes back to the advances of 1850 and the 1920s. The lake was fed, among other things, by the Kleiner Grünauferner, which clouded it with suspended matter ; it has had clear water since the glacier melted.

The Stubai High Trail leads directly past the lake from the Sulzenauhütte to the Nürnberger Hütte .
