The green house number is an award for environmentally friendly building . A house number in the appropriate color is given as an externally visible sign that the minimum standards have been met .

History and dissemination

In Saarland , the award was given under the responsibility of the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Transport. According to a point system, at least 100 points had to be achieved. The award ceremony took place in a ceremony with several successful project participants. The original goal of the initiative of the Saarland state government was environmentally friendly building or renovation both to increase the value of the house and to contribute to saving resources and promoting the craft . Green house numbers have been assigned in Saarland since 1996. At the end of 2008, the 500th green house number was awarded by the Saarland.

There have also been corresponding awards in other regions, for example in Erfurt , Mainz and Schweinfurt since 2003 . Green house numbers have also been assigned in Weimar since 2009 .

Since 2015, the state of Lower Saxony has also been awarding the green house number to particularly energy-efficient residential buildings through the Lower Saxony Climate Protection and Energy Agency.
