Green fir
The Grüne Tanne is a historic inn on the Camsdorfer Bridge in Jena .
history
The age of the building cannot be precisely determined due to frequent renovations, but the cellar vaults suggest that it was built in the Gothic era (12th to 14th centuries). The inn, which at the time belonged to Gut Camsdorf , has been called Green Fir since 1751. The inn has always been a popular excursion destination for Jena students, as it was outside the city limits until 1909 and was therefore not subject to university jurisdiction. The original fraternity was founded here in 1815 .
During his stay in Jena from 1817 to 1818, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed on the top floor of the Green Fir . According to local tradition, Goethe also wrote his Erlkönig here . However, this has not been proven; the piece was probably created before his first stay in the Grüner Tanne.
In the early 20th century the house was a meeting place for trade unions and social democrats. Since the incorporation of Camsdorf in 1909, the green fir tree has belonged to the urban area of Jena. The building fell into disrepair during the GDR era . In 1993 the green fir was renovated and since then it has served as a corporation house for the Arminia fraternity in the castle cellar . Since 1998 it has been used as an inn again, with only the lower floor being open to the public.
