Fred Shuttlesworth (born March 18, 1922 in Mount Meigs , Montgomery County , Alabama , as Freddie Lee Robinson ; † October 5, 2011 Birmingham (Alabama) ) was a Baptist cleric and civil rights activist who campaigned against all forms of the in Birmingham, Alabama Racism started.

Life

Fred Shuttlesworth, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church since 1953, was one of the founders of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Martin Luther King in 1957 and has played a leading role in the Freedom Rides since 1961 .
