The Green Fountain is a fountain in Darmstadt .
History and description
The "Green Fountain" was created in 1979 based on a design by the Darmstadt sculptor Christfried Präger . The fountain on “Schloßgartenplatz” - in front of the entrance portal of the Church of St. Elisabeth - consists of a round, flat base on which, from the center of the circle, curved, leaf-shaped bronze plates lie. Three low water springs gush from the well platform. The pavement around the fountain was also laid out in the shape of a leaf.
The curved shape of the bronze plates is intended to illustrate the importance of water as the origin of life. The sources and the leaf pattern of the plaster are also supposed to symbolize life and growth.
The Green Fountain is the result of a fountain design competition announced by the City of Darmstadt in 1978. The fountain is part of the redevelopment of the Martinsviertel in Darmstadt .
