The greenish spinning wasp ( Bembix olivacea ) is a hymenoptera from the Crabronidae family . The species is not endangered.
features
The wasp reaches a body length of 12 to 17 millimeters and is thus slightly smaller than the similar gyro wasp ( Bembix rostrata ). Their head and thorax are relatively long and have thick white hairs. The body is dark in color and has a predominantly greenish-yellow pattern, which makes the species easy to identify.
Occurrence
The species occurs in the Mediterranean area widespread and in places frequently, the distribution extends in the north to the south of Slovakia, whereby it does not occur in Central Europe. Loose sandy soils are populated, especially dunes near the coast. The animals fly from June to September.
Way of life
The greenish gyro wasp provides its brood with flies like the beaked gyro wasp.
