In the grave of Baden-Powell are Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell and his wife Olave, Baroness Baden-Powell , in Nyeri in Kenya buried.
Robert Baden-Powell died on January 8, 1941 and was buried in St. Peter's Cemetery in Nyeri. After his wife Olave Baden-Powell died in England in 1977, their ashes were sent to Kenya and buried next to her husband. Kenya has declared the grave of Robert Baden-Powell a national monument.
On the cemetery grounds, now known as the "Baden-Powell Historical Gardens", there is an information center with a permanent exhibition on Robert Baden-Powell and the boy scout movement.
history
Baden-Powell, who knew and liked Kenya, decided to spend the winter in Nyeri at his friend Eric Sherbrooke Walker's Outspan Hotel. He chose Kenya as his last home because of the favorable climate and political situation in Europe. After he and Olave died, they had a memorial service at Westminster Abbey. The memorial stone is located in the south central nave of Westminster Abbey in front of the screen of St. George's Chapel and was unveiled on February 12, 1981. The grave has become a place of pilgrimage. with up to 50,000 visitors per year.
Every year on February 22nd, members of the Kenya Scouts Association and the Kenya Girl Guides Association celebrate Founder's Day at the grave.

His tombstone has a circle with a dot in the middle, "ʘ" the ranger symbol for "I did my job and went home." As well as a boy scout lily and a girl scout clover .

Baden-Powell knew that his health was deteriorating and planned accordingly. His will stipulated that he should be buried in Nyeri, without the grave assigned to him in Westminster Abbey. His death was worldwide news. He left final letters for Scout and Scouter and made plans for his funeral. When he died, he was buried in a procession.
