Grady Chapman

Grady Chapman (born October 1, 1929 in Greenville , South Carolina , † January 4, 2011 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American singer. He was best known as the lead singer of the doo-wop group The Robins (a predecessor group of The Coasters ).

Life

Chapman grew up in Greenville and joined the vocal group The Robins in 1952. He sang there with Bobby Nunn , Billy Richards, Roy Richards, Ty Terrell and later also Carl Gardner . The Robins released singles on RCA Records and on Sparks, the Leiber / Stoller label , among others . In 1955, Leiber and Stoller converted parts of The Robins into The Coasters. Chapman was absent. In 1958, Chapman wrote Sweet Pea (Class Records # 232) for the duo Bob & Earl . Chapman later became a member of the Coasters offshootThe Coasters Mark II, which also featured Bobby Nunn, Bobby Sheen and Billy Richards, Jr. 1977 Chapman sang along with Billy Guy and Jerome Evans at Paid the Price of Michelle Phillips , whose album Victim of Romance . Chapman also appeared on The Coasters as a replacement for Carl Gardner between 1990s and 2000 . With various members he performed as Grady Chapman & The Robins until his death. On January 4, 2011, he died of heart failure .
