Robert Graeme Pollock (born February 27, 1944 in Durban , Natal , South Africa ) is a former South African cricketer . He is considered to be the best South African cricketer.
Life
Pollock came from a famous family of cricketers. His father, his uncle, his brother, but also his two sons and a nephew ( Shaun Pollock ) played either first-class cricket in or even test cricket for South Africa.
He himself played first-class cricket for Eastern Province since 1960. At the age of 19 he made his debut for South Africa against Australia . Pollock's international career ended seven years later after only 23 test matches due to the international boycott of sports against the apartheid policy there . Nationally he played until the end of the 1986/1987 season for Eastern Province and Transvaal.
Statistically, Pollock is the second best batsman of all time after Sir Donald Bradman , stylistically he is considered the best left-handed batsman.
After the end of his sporting career, Pollock took on tasks as a coach and functionary in the South African association.
