The Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany
The Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany was founded in its earliest form in 1957 and is an association of "regular" Masonic lodges . This grand lodge belongs to the United Grand Lodges of Germany (VGLvD).
This grand lodge, like the American Canadian Grand Lodge , was originally a military lodge for members of the Allied armed forces and was founded in West Germany in 1957 as the district of the grand lodge AF & AM . In 1959 the district was raised to a provincial lodge and called itself Grand Land Lodge since 1971. In 1982 it received its current name and the status of an independent grand lodge. The working language is English , the emulation ritual , which is also used in England, is used . The GL BFG lodges work in the English tradition with memorized ritual texts. The only exception is the Kurt Tucholsky Lodge No. which was newly founded in Unna (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 2013. 1060, who edited the emulation ritual in German.
For some years now, the Grand Lodge has developed into an international association of Freemasons. Members from more than 15 nations are currently represented. In addition to the “resident members” in Germany, some “country members” are represented all over the world. The Masonic Orders (Mark, Royal Arch Chapter) not affiliated with the Grand Lodge of British Freemasons deal with almost all rituals of English Freemasonry. Currently, 18 lodges are working under the GL BFG, mainly in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony , but also in Hamburg , Munich , Berlin and near Frankfurt am Main .
