Grand phare de l'Île de Sein is the name of a lighthouse built between 1950 and 1951 on the island of Sein in the Atlantic Ocean near the western coast of Brittany in the Finistère department . The construction of a new lighthouse became necessary after the first tower from 1839 was destroyed during World War II in 1944. It has a range of 29 nautical miles .

Current lighthouse
On February 16, 1951, the new tower - built on a cylindrical structure made of reinforced concrete - went into operation. Inside the tower there is a power station and a seawater desalination plant to supply the island with electricity and drinking water.
