Grandison Delaney Royston

Grandison Delaney Royston (born December 9, 1809 in Carter County , Tennessee , † August 14, 1889 in Washington , Arkansas ) was an American politician and lawyer .

Career

Royston was born and raised in Tennessee, then moved to Arkansas. There he took part in the constituent assemblies as a delegate in 1836 and 1877 . Royston was a federal attorney in Arkansas in 1836 and between 1843 and 1844 . He sat in the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1837 and in the Arkansas Senate in 1858 . During the Civil War he represented Arkansas between 1862 and 1864 as a member of the first Confederate Congress . In his re-election in 1863, he suffered a defeat. He died in Washington ( Hempstead County ) in 1889 and was buried there in the Presbyterian Cemetery .

Royston was married to Mary Clarissa Bates (1819-1890). The couple had at least four children together: Charles E. (1843-1910), Mary Elizabeth (1847-1855), Catharine Frances (1849-1858) and Irene (1852-1932).
