The Grandy Brook is a 47 km long river in the south of the island of Newfoundland, which belongs to the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador . It is not to be confused with the Grandys Brook river, which runs almost 90 km further west .

River course

The Grandy Brook forms the outflow of a small nameless lake 420  m high. Route 480 (Burgeo Highway) runs along its west bank, and Buck Lake is 500 m northwest . The Grandy Brook flows south to the south coast of Newfoundland. Route 480 crosses Grandy Brook at river kilometer 44 and later runs parallel to the river at a distance of about 5 km further east. For the last two kilometers, Grandy Brook turns west, before finally flowing into the Atlantic Ocean 7 km west of the municipality of Burgeo . The Top Pond Brook forms a larger tributary from the left.

Hydrology

The Grandy Brook drains an area of ​​about 470 km². The mean discharge at the gauge 23 km above the mouth is 14.3 m³ / s. The highest monthly discharges usually occur in April and May with an average of 26.5 and 27.3 m³ / s, respectively.

Fish fauna

The salmon population at Grandy Brook is considered to be threatened.
