history
The former company Granini in 1964 in Bielefeld by from Porta Westfalica originating Heinz Schurmann founded. Among other things, Schürmann worked as an importer of pasta, which is why the company was founded under the name Granini, from Italian grano for grain.
In 1965 the production of juices, nectars and fruit juice drinks began. The company was integrated into Melitta in 1967 . The brands granini trinkGenuss for fruit juice products and granini GuteErnte for vegetable juices were launched. In 1973 sales of 100 million DM were achieved , in 1989 of 500 million DM. In 1994, 74 percent of the company was taken over by Eckes and merged to form Eckes-Granini. At the end of 2006, Melitta sold its last 26 percent share in Eckes-Granini International, now the Eckes-Granini Group , which now holds 100 percent of the company.
Products
Under the Granini brand, fruit lemonades, nectars and juices are offered both for home consumption and as a cocktail base for gastronomy. In addition to cardboard packaging, the typical branded knobbed bottle - previously generally made of glass, now predominantly PET - is used. Only the 0.2 liter knobbed bottle for the catering sector is made of glass today. In addition, 1-liter glass bottles from the Association of the German Fruit Juice Industry are reusable.

In Austria, the apple juice produced by Eckes Granini Austria in Lower Austria is marketed under the Original-Obi brand, as Eckes-Granini has acquired the trademark rights to the Obi fruit juice brand, which is very well known in Austria and Switzerland . In large parts of Austria, the term obi is a synonym for apple juice.
