After participating in the Junior World Championships in Jyväskylä in 1992 , he ran for the first time in 1993 at the World Championships of the elite. In 1999 he was third in the overall ranking of the Park World Tour behind the Dane Allan Mogensen and the Czech Rudolf Ropek . The greatest successes came after the turn of the millennium, when he reached eleven and eighth place in the sprint at the 2001 and 2003 World Championships and finished sixth with the relay, including Troy de Haas . At the 2001 World Games he achieved the greatest triumph of his career. In the middle distance race he won the gold medal with around 38 seconds ahead of Tore Sandvik from Norway. The Australian mixed relay also came in fifth, just 15 seconds behind the bronze medalists from Sweden. In 2003 he finished second in the overall standings of the Park World Tour behind Thierry Gueorgiou from France.
During his career, Bluett lived in Sweden for seven years, where he started for the clubs Strängnäs-Malmby OL and Malungs OK . At the end of 2005, Bluett ended his international career. However, he continued to compete in races in Australia and became oceanic sprint champion in 2011.
