The Grasbrook was a brig that was built in Hamburg and put into service in 1853. The ship ran aground at Ameland in 1863 .

In the Hamburg Bielbrief from April 1, 1853 the following dimensions are given for the Grasbrook :

  • Length between the stems = 102.40 hamburger feet (29.30 m)
  • Largest width = 27.80 hamburger feet (7.95 m)
  • Height (belly board to decking) = 15.90 hamburger feet (4.55 m)
  • Carrying capacity = 109 Hamburg commercial loads

history

The Grasbrook was built in Hamburg by master shipbuilder Gottfried Jacob Franz Krohn and in 1853 by the trading company Joh. Ces. Godeffroy & son of the Hamburg businessman Johan Cesar Godeffroy (1813–1885) acquired and put into service. The brig was named after the island landscape Grasbrook on the Elbe .

The sailing ship came in liner service from Joh. Ces. Godeffroy & Sohn on duty. It transported emigrants and commercial goods from Hamburg to Australia and South America . On December 5, 1863, the Grasbrook stranded in a storm near Ameland . The crew was able to save themselves, the ship or wreck was sold after the accident.
