Charles Homer Mouton

Charles Alexandre Homere Mouton (born December 8, 1823 in St. Landry Parish , Louisiana , † March 16, 1912 in Lafayette Parish , Louisiana) was an American politician . Between 1856 and 1859 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana.

Career

Charles Mouton, nephew of US Senator and Governor Alexander Mouton , attended private schools and St. Charles College , also in Louisiana. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1844, he began to work in this profession in Lafayette . In 1855 he became a district judge. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1850 he was elected to the State Senate.

In 1855, Mouton was elected lieutenant governor of Louisiana alongside Robert C. Wickliffe . He held this office between 1856 and 1859. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1859 he resigned prematurely from this office. During the Civil War , Mouton was a staff officer with his cousin Alfred Mouton , who was a general in the Confederation Army . He then practiced as a lawyer in New Orleans . In the meantime, he also acted as a district attorney. He died on March 16, 1912. He was also related to Fernand Mouton , who was also Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana between 1916 and 1920.
