William Harold Nungesser (2007)

William Harold "Billy" Nungesser (born January 10, 1959 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American politician . He has been Vice Governor of the State of Louisiana since 2016 .

Career

William Nungesser is the son of the same name William Nungesser Sr. (1929-2006), who was one of the most influential Republican politicians in Louisiana. In his youth he worked for his parents' offshore catering company. He later founded his own company, the General Marine Leasing Company . Politically he joined the Republican Party like his father and was promoted by him . Among other things, he is also a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). Between 2006 and 2015 he was the District Councilor in Plaquemines Parish. During this time he had to deal with coping with the aftermath of some cyclones. In 2011 he ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor of Louisiana.

Four years later he reapplied for this post. He prevailed with 55.38% of the vote against the Democrat Kip Holden. Since January 11, 2016, William Nungesser has served as Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana as the official representative of Governor John Bel Edwards , who is a member of the Democratic Party.
