James Jeffries (politician)

James A. Jeffries (October 1836January 18, 1910 ) was an American politician . Between 1888 and 1892 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana .

Career

The sources on James Jeffries are very poor. It is certain that he lived at least temporarily in Alexandria in Rapides Parish in Louisiana. During the Civil War he served in the Confederation Army . Later he also belonged to a veterans organization. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . Within this party he joined the faction around Francis T. Nicholls . In the meantime he also sat on the Democratic National Committee .

In 1888, Jeffries was elected lieutenant governor of Louisiana alongside Nicholls. He held this office between 1888 and 1892. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . At the same time he was again a member of the federal board of the Democrats. He died on January 18, 1910 and was buried in Shreveport .
