Fernand Mouton

Fernand Mouton (born October 18, 1878 in Breaux Bridge , Louisiana , †  July 24, 1945 ) was an American politician . Between 1916 and 1920 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana.

Career

Fernand Mouton was the great-nephew of the former governor and US Senator Alexander Mouton (1804-1885). This family also included Lieutenant Governor Charles Homer Mouton and possibly Marc M. Mouton , also a Lieutenant Governor. The latter family connection is not proven, but the name is conceivable. He attended Draughon's Business College in Nashville ( Tennessee ). After that he earned his living selling fruit trees for two years. He then worked in the insurance industry in Lafayette . From 1903 he was head of the office of New York Life Insurance Company in Paris . After his return from France , he also entered the banking industry in Louisiana and was involved in founding various companies. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . He became a councilor in Lafayette; from 1912 he was a member of the Louisiana Senate . There he sat on several committees.

In 1916, Mouton was elected lieutenant governor of Louisiana alongside Ruffin Pleasant . He held this office between 1916 and 1920. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After that his track is lost; it is only known that he died on July 24, 1945.
