Hiram R. Lott

Hiram Richard Lott (born April 2, 1825 in Covington County , Mississippi , †  June 2, 1895 in Managua , Nicaragua ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana .

Career

In the mid-1850s, Hiram Lott came to Floyd , Louisiana, where he became a recognized citizen and planter . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1892 and 1895 he was a member and President Pro Tempore of the Louisiana Senate .

After Lieutenant Governor Charles Parlange resigned in 1893 , he had to act as President Pro Tempore of the Senate in accordance with the state constitution, which he then held until 1895. He was deputy to Governor Murphy J. Foster and official chairman of the State Senate. After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Lott became the American consul in Managua. He died there on June 2, 1895. Since 1847 he was married to Mary Williams, with whom he had six children, five of whom died at a young age.
