Thomas C. Barret

Thomas Charles Barret (born March 30, 1860 in Nacogdoches , Texas , †  March 17, 1922 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) was an American politician . Between 1912 and 1916 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana.

Career

Thomas Barret studied at the University of the South in Tennessee and Tulane University and Louisiana State University . After completing his law degree and admission to the bar, he began working in this profession in Shreveport. He also worked in the real estate industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In his homeland he held several local offices. Between 1896 and 1912 he sat in the Louisiana Senate , whose President Pro Tempore he was from 1908. For several years he headed the finance committee of the state senate.

In 1912, Barret was elected lieutenant governor of Louisiana alongside Luther E. Hall . He held this office between 1912 and 1916. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the State Senate. He died on March 17, 1922 in Shreveport, where he was also buried.
