Philip H. Gilbert

Philip Henri Gilbert (born October 25, 1870 in Napoleonville , Louisiana , †  October 18, 1932 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1926 and 1928 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana.

Career

Philip Gilbert attended both public and private schools. After studying law at Tulane University and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession. Between 1908 and 1916 he was a District Attorney in the 27th Judicial District of Louisiana. He then worked there as a judge from 1916 to 1920. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1924 and 1932 he was a member of the Louisiana Senate , of which he was President Pro Tempore in 1926.

After the death of Governor Henry L. Fuqua, his lieutenant governor Oramel H. Simpson became his successor. The vacated position of Vice Governor fell to the President Pro Tempore of the State Senate, Philip Gilbert. This held the post provisionally until the end of the term in 1928. He was Deputy Governor and official chairman of the State Senate. He died on October 18, 1932 in his hometown of Napoleonville in Assumption Parish , where he was also buried.
