Paul Hardy (politician)

Paul Jude Hardy (born October 18, 1942 ) is an American politician . Between 1988 and 1992 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana .

Career

In 1960 Paul Hardy graduated from Cecilia High School in St. Martin Parish , Louisiana. He then studied until 1965 at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette . After studying law at Loyola University in New Orleans and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in St. Martinville . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1972 and 1976 he was a member of the Louisiana Senate . He then held the office of Secretary of State of his state between 1976 and 1980 . In 1979 he narrowly failed his party's gubernatorial election. In the 1980s he joined the Republicans .

In 1987 Hardy was elected lieutenant governor of Louisiana alongside Buddy Roemer . He held this office between 1988 and 1992. He was Deputy Governor . In 1991 he was not confirmed in that office. He was the first Republican lieutenant governor of Louisiana since 1877. After serving as lieutenant governor, Paul Hardy is no longer politically active. He works as a lawyer, banker and private businessman and as a political advisor. He lives in Baton Rouge with his wife, with whom he has two grown children .
