George L. Walton

George L. Walton was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1884 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana .

Career

The life dates of George Walton are not known. Between 1864 and 1865 he served in a Louisiana infantry unit in the final stages of the Civil War . Politically, he was initially a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1880 and 1884 he was a member of the Louisiana Senate . At that time he was living in Concordia Parish .

After the death of Governor Louis A. Wiltz , his deputy Samuel D. McEnery took over his office. In accordance with the state constitution, the President Pro Tempore of the State Senate, WA Robertson , was promoted to acting lieutenant governor. He held this office between October 16 and December 24, 1881. He was Deputy Governor and official chairman of the State Senate. Since he lost the post of President Pro Tempore on December 24th , he had to give up the office of lieutenant governor. That day, George Walton was elected as the new President Pro Tempore of the State Senate. This also gave him the role of acting vice governor, which he held until the end of his term in 1884.

In 1884 Walton moved to the Republican Party . He supported the then unsuccessful presidential campaign of Republican James G. Blaine . Then he applied unsuccessfully for a seat in the US House of Representatives . Then his track is lost again.
