Lether Frazar

Lether Edward Frazar (born December 1, 1904 in DeRidder , Louisiana , †  May 15, 1960 ) was an American politician . Between 1956 and 1960 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Louisiana.

Career

Until 1928, Lether Frazar studied history at the Southwestern Institute . He then attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge until 1932 . In 1942 he finished a philosophy degree at Columbia University in New York . In between he worked in school. By 1938 he headed various high schools in Louisiana. From 1938 to 1941 he was President of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette . During the Second World War he worked for the Office of Price Administration and became its regional president for Louisiana. From 1944 to 1955 he was President of McNeese College .

Politically, Frazar joined the Democratic Party . Between 1936 and 1940 he was an MP in the Louisiana House of Representatives . He was a supporter of Earl Long . In 1956, he was elected lieutenant governor of Louisiana alongside Long. He held this office between 1956 and 1960. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1959 he gave up another candidacy. He died on May 15, 1960, just a short time after his term as lieutenant governor ended. He had two daughters with his wife Lilly Hooper.
