Breaux Bridge is a city in St. Martin Parish in the US state of Louisiana .
history
In 1799, Firmin Breaux, an academic who had previously purchased land, built a bridge over the Bayou Teche near the village . This resulted in the later name Breaux Bridge . The official establishment of the place dates back to August 5, 1829. The 33-year-old Scholastique Picou Breaux made a city map in which not only the existing locations were recorded, but also a future street map. In 1847 a church was built and in 1859 the place was officially registered as a parish.

The crayfish festival is celebrated annually in Breaux Bridge. It is said that this is where the dish of crayfish ragout (crawfish etouffee) was prepared for the first time; The place was now known for its cancer breeders and for the 100th anniversary in 1959, a member of the Louisiana government officially named it “ la capitale mondiale de l'ecrevisse ” (German: world capital of cancer).
