Jake Delhomme Christopher (* 10. January 1975 in Breaux Bridge , Louisiana ) is a former American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He played college football for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before he was signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent after the 1997 NFL Draft . After he was initially only used in the Practice Squad of the Saints, he made his first games in the National Football League in 1999, after a two-year break in the NFL Europe . From 2003 to 2009 he played for the Carolina Panthers and led them to Super Bowl XXXVIII in his first season . He then played for the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans before retiring in 2011.

Delhommes parents are Cajuns . He comes from a horse-loving family who are involved in the rearing of thoroughbred horses. Delhomme attended high school in Lafayette , where he played as a quarterback and as a defensive back . He was honored for his defensive performance. At his college , the University of Louisiana at Lafayette , however, he only played as a quarterback for the Louisiana Ragin 'Cajuns . Delhomme achieved a space gain of 9216 yards with his passports - this was a school record.

Professional time

Delhomme was never drafted by a professional team . In 1997 he was hired by the New Orleans Saints as a free agent , but was not used. In 1998 he was sent from the Saints to the NFL Europe to the Amsterdam Admirals , where he should gain experience. However, he did not succeed in asserting himself against Kurt Warner . His stats were disappointing, he only played one game, failed to score a touchdown and threw four interceptions . After being fired from the Carolina Panthers after a disappointing 2009 season , he signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns . On November 30, 2011, the Houston Texans announced the signing of Delhommes. He was signed because Matt Schaub and his substitute Matt Leinart were sidelined for the rest of the season due to serious injuries.

Delhomme played once in the Pro Bowl , the final game of the best players of the season. In 2005 he won the Quarterback Challenge .
