The Grassenbiwak is a refuge of the Swiss Alpine Club Section Engelberg in the Urner Alps in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland .

Location and operation

The hut is on the Tierberg between Titlis and Grassen and at the Wendenjoch between Engelberg and Gadmen at 2647  m above sea level. M. It is operated by the Engelberg section of the Swiss Alpine Club and is not manned.

history

The small, square bivouac, built in the style of Jakob Eschenmoser in 1970, has a simple living room / bedroom. It is unattended and for self-cookers. The bivouac can be reached from Engelberg / Herrenrüti on an alpine trail with glacier crossings. In summer, ascents and climbing destinations are possible from the bivouac and in winter ski and snowshoe tours are possible. It offers a view of four glaciers and the Titlis wall.

Approaches

  • From Engelberg / Herrenrüti via Ober Stäfeli and Gorisegg (normal route) in 5 hours, ascent 1590 meters in altitude, difficulty level T4.
  • in winter on skis: from Gadmen over the Wendenboden in 4 ½ to 5 hours, ascent 1470 meters in altitude, level of difficulty ZS-.
