Maria Mayrhofer

Maria Mayrhofer (* 1987 in Lilienfeld ) is a political scientist, feminist and managing director of the civil society NGO #aufstehn .

Life

Mayrhofer studied international development and political science in Vienna and Costa Rica . She is particularly active in the field of human rights issues and a. in her diploma thesis on the connection between gender and national identity against the background of the Western Sahara conflict . In 2011 she was awarded the Young Talent Prize of the Austrian Society for Political Science (ÖGPW) . In 2012 her work was published by Peter Lang Verlag . After completing her training, Mayrhofer worked as a journalist and worked for several years as the press officer of a non-profit association.

In 2015 Mayrhofer founded the non-profit campaign organization #aufstehn together with campaign consultant Yussi Pick . As managing director, she has since been mainly responsible for building up the organization and managing it. In 2016 she was awarded the Vienna Women's Prize for her commitment to combating online hatred .
