The Graz Ostbahnhof-Messe train station (until 2010 Graz Ostbahnhof ) is a long-distance and regional train station in the Styrian capital Graz and is the station of two lines of the Styrian S-Bahn . It is located in the sixth Jakomini district of Graz . The reception building is a representative brick building that is a listed building.
history
According to the plans of the Hungarian Western Railway , the route, which was built between 1870 and 1873, should reach the former Südbahnhof (now Graz Hauptbahnhof ) from the south. After crossing over the Mur , the railway would have led along the right bank of the Mur to the south station , which was designed as a terminal station. This suggestion aroused incomprehension among all of Graz's public institutions, who then submitted a petition to the Ministry of Commerce with the aim of building their own Graz city train station. The ministry gave in and forced the Hungarian Western Railway by a government decision to build a station building in Schönau (today's Conrad-von-Hötzendorfstrasse ).
The Graz Ostbahnhof was officially opened on May 1, 1873. Originally called the Hungarian West Railway Station , it was renamed State Railway Station on January 1, 1889 .
Half of the tracks and switches were destroyed in the Second World War, but in contrast to the main train station , the old building was preserved.
With the timetable change on December 12, 2010, the station previously called “Graz Ostbahnhof” was renamed “Graz Ostbahnhof-Messe”.

The station has quite a bit of cargo handling, for example through a factory connection at the eastern end of the station, where tank cars are provided daily, or scrap loading across the platform side.
