Freight transport
A few freight trains pass through Fehring station every day. Most of them have to stop because they are either checked or a driver change or a train crossing takes place. They mainly transport freight between Hungary and the greater Graz area . Once a day, a pair of service trains runs from Fehring to Fürstenfeld and back, which mainly fetches wire, scrap as well as steel and wood from the industrial areas in Fürstenfeld and then stores them in Fehring. These cars will be transferred to a train station in Graz at 5:00 p.m. moving freight train .
Another pair of service trains runs from Fehring to Feldbach , primarily to provide and remove the many ballast wagons there.
In Fehring, many locomotives that are temporarily not needed are parked in the area of the round locomotive shed. These include diesel locomotives of the 2016 series of the Steiermärkische Landesbahnen , which help a private freight train that only runs on weekdays on the way to Vienna over the Söchauer Berg and then return as a locomotive train. Since the last change in the contract, the train has only been on the move at irregular intervals.
Renovation 2018
From June 2018 the station will be modernized in three stages. The former through track, which is currently divided into two supporting tracks by the central platform , is to be pulled through again and the new central platform, accessible through an underpass, will be created instead of another track. The long-abandoned house platform (platform 1) is to be reopened. Only the first four tracks of the station will be replaced with new ones. The parking and traction areas remain the same. The barrier-free Fehring station should be completed by mid-2021.
