History of the company

In 1991 the Englishman "David Anthony Gold" developed what he called the " shell bonding process", the first hair-saving system for hair extensions and hair thickening. In 1992 he founded Great Lengths in Nepi near Rome . In 2011 he handed over the management of the company to his long-term business partner Matteo Antonino.

The head office for the German-speaking area has been located in the small community of Sankt Stefan im Rosental (Southeast Styria) since 1995 for the now global sales network . In 2007, sales of 11 million euros were achieved in Germany, which makes up 22 percent of total sales.

Sales development DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)

The development of the market is reflected in the group turnover (international from 6 million EUR in 1995 to 164 million EUR in 2007), which also increased to around 13.2 million in the German-speaking area ( see graphic ). The proportion of salons that use Great Lengths' technology for hair lengthening or hair thickening is growing: worldwide from 3,500 (1997) to around 35,000 (2007) ( see graphic ).

Number of salons worldwide

In April 2007 a second production facility was opened in Nepi. In 2007 the Austrian branch Great Lengths Haarvertriebs GmbH was named the most women and family-friendly company in 2007 (3rd place in the category “medium-sized companies”). In 2008, Great Lengths Haarvertriebs GmbH received the TRIGOS award in the “Workplace / Medium-Sized Enterprises” category for, among other things, the “high quota of women in management positions” as stated in the jury's statement. In 2015, Great Lengths was certified and awarded as an Austrian leading company , the award as a 'leading company' was recertified for a further two years in June 2017 and March 2019. In autumn 2016, after a year of construction, a production facility was opened in Sankt Stefan im Rosental.

Hair and systems

Real hair from India is used for hair extensions and hair thickening . In contrast to African or Chinese hair, it corresponds most closely to the basic structure of European hair. The hair that is produced in India as “ temple hair ” during sacrifice is depigmented using a special osmosis process and then colored with textile dyes.

Great Lengths offers different systems for securing hair. The classic system combines the bonds with your own hair using heat. The ultrasound system uses the even gentler method of creating the connection between your own hair and the shell bond with the help of ultrasound. The method of the air pressure system combines previous technologies with speed: So-called sets can be used, which means nothing other than that several strands can be worked in in one operation, which results in enormous time savings. The Multisonic system introduced in spring 2011 is based on the ultrasound system and offers the possibility of using single strands and multiple strands with one device.

Since spring 2013 there has also been a variant called “GL Apps” that can be inserted into one's own hair with an adhesive bond (tape) without a device. The shelf life is up to eight weeks, the strands can then or earlier be removed with a "remover spray" or "remover shampoo".

In autumn 2017, the successor product "GL Tapes" came onto the market, which, in addition to the simple adhesive connection, also enables use with a double adhesive connection.

The ultrasonic system "Ultrasonic Touch" was introduced in March 2018. In addition to operation via touchscreen , a shorter activation time and the USB interface for updates, the coating of the rod has also been changed ("Xtrm Coat Technology").

At the end of May 2018, "GL Volume", an upper head section with real hair, a flexible net and a keratin braid was presented.

At the beginning of 2020, with the “GL Pre-Bonded Minis”, a variant was added to the range, whose connection points (bondings) and strands make up only half of the classic strands. This eliminates the need to halve the bondings for particularly fine hair.
