Great Salt Pond is one of the former volcanic craters in St. Kitts and Nevis , an island state in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean .

The lagoon is located on the knob of the "pan handle", the Southeast Peninsula of St. Kitts in the area of the Parish Saint George Basseterre . The former volcanic crater is connected to the sea ( Ballast Bay ) to the west by the Little Salt Pond . Districts of Christophe Harbor are spread around the water surface and there are numerous beaches. To the east, only a narrow strip of land separates the Pond from Sand Bank Bay .
