Great Western and Brentford Railway

The Great Western and Brentford Railway was a British railway company based in Middlesex , England .

The company was founded on August 14, 1855 to build a 6.4 kilometer long railway line in the broad gauge of 2140 mm. The line ran from Southall on the Great Western Railway London – Bristol line to Brentford Docks on the banks of the Thames .

On July 15, 1859, goods traffic was started on the route, and passenger traffic from May 1, 1860. From the opening date, the line was leased to the Great Western Railway . In 1861 the line was extended by a third rail for the standard gauge . In 1876 it was converted to standard gauge.

The Great Western Railway took over the company with effect from January 1, 1872.
