Oil and gas concessions in Sudan

Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company (GNPOC) is an oil company based in Sudan . According to its own information (as of early 2006), GNPOC produces more than 300,000 barrels of oil per day. After the completion of a pipeline in April 2006 that connects the oil fields in South Sudan with Khartoum and Port Sudan , production is expected to increase to 500,000 barrels of oil per day by the end of 2006.

The company owns concessions for units 1, 2 and 4.

GNPOC was incorporated on June 18, 1997 and is a joint venture currently owned by the following companies:

  • since 1999 production of 50,000 barrels per day
  • since July 2004 production of 290,000 barrels per day
  • Production of 500,000 barrels per day planned since April 2006 (delay due to technical difficulties)

Talisman Energy Inc. owned a 25% stake from 1998 to 2002 before it was sold to ONGC Videsh Ltd. was sold from India.
